Restarting Your Modem or ONT
A simple restart can resolve most internet connectivity issues. Follow these steps to properly restart your equipment.
Before You Start
A restart will temporarily disconnect all devices from the internet for approximately 2-5 minutes. Make sure to save any work before proceeding.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1
Locate Your Equipment
Find your GigaSpire router (black box with perforated sides) and ONT (Optical Network Terminal), which is typically a small white or gray box mounted on a wall.
2
Unplug the Power
Disconnect the power cord from the back of your GigaSpire router. If you also have a separate ONT, unplug its power as well.
3
Wait 30 Seconds
Wait at least 30 seconds. This allows the equipment to fully power down and clear its memory.
4
Reconnect Power
Plug the power cord back into your ONT first (if separate), wait 2 minutes for it to fully boot, then plug in your GigaSpire router.
5
Wait for Connection
Allow 2-5 minutes for your equipment to fully restart and establish a connection. The lights on your router will stabilize when ready.
How to Know It's Working
- The power light on your router is solid (not blinking)
- The Wi-Fi indicator light is on
- Your devices can connect to your Wi-Fi network
- You can access websites and stream content
